Rollin' Up To The Mondrian
We're in the THICK of neighborhood hunting. Ok, we know, that sounds like the absolute most privileged thing that has ever come out of our mouths - but it's true. We're trying to figure out what neighborhood will work best for us, "I refuse to walk more that a block for a coffee shop," New Yorkers. We have a couple months before moving out, so we're here on a sort of recon mission. Here's what's on the table from west to east: Santa Monica, Venice, Culver City, West Hollywood, Echo Park, Silverlake
So... Basically the entire town. Let's now break it down based on our precious feelings and emotions.
Santa Monica
THE WORST! We're sorry. If you love this part of town, that's awesome. We however feel utterly trapped whenever we're here. That said, If you're up early enough, you kind of get the entire place to yourself. Early being, before Noon. We have no idea how anyone maintains a job out here. Check out the Promenade.
Venice
Slightly better than Santa Monica. It has a less built up version of the Santa Monica Promenade, called Abbott Kinney (or at least that's the street it's on). Love the architecture. The Venice Boardwalk is cool too, feels similar to Coney Island in a way. Check out Gjelina Take Away Be warned however, this amazing sandwich below apparently takes 20 minutes to make and they don't warn you of this.
Culver City
Seems cool, we have to admit, we've only really been driving through! Oops! Haha, Already failed the neighborhood hunt - but hey, we only have a week!
Echo Park/ Silverlake
Definitely including these two together. I'm sure the locale would say they're super unique... but from a drive by perspective, they're very similar. Γber hip - Brooklyn-esque-residential mixed with high-end pickle specialty shops (we actually don't mean that to sound snobby, we love artisans pickles, can we get a shout for Jacob's Pickles PLZ!) Anyways, we stayed here for a few days in an airbnb and it was definitely top contender on our list of places to live:
West Hollywood
Okay, We jumped over this for a hot second to talk about Silverlake, but that's only because we're completely smitten with West Hollywood! Yes, we also just said smitten. We're a little worried everyone will think we're basic for moving to the super gay area of LA, but, we've decided we don't care. It's such a lively part of town with very high walkability. We stayed at the Mondrian. We definitely recommend it, although, just know that they DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT give you free coffee in the rooms. Ya gotta walk to the lobby. no no no no no! It's worth it though.. See below.
That's it. We're moving!
