Getaway: San Francisco
Have you ever made last minute plans to escape town for the weekend? We just did! We’re driving up to San Francisco this weekend and have some packing and planning to do before we go. Corey’s birthday is on Sunday and we have some good friends up there we’ll be seeing.
As you know, we love traveling and we’ve pulled off a few of these impromptu trips before. Here are some essential elements to getting ready we’ve been thinking through for this trip:
1. Food!!
Yelp, OpenTable, Eater, etc. We’re asking everyone for recommendations these days. And making reservations we’re ok cancelling later if we need to. We found out on our first trip together how important it was to keep our stomachs full if we wanted harmony.
So we’ve got two options picked out for pit stops on our way up. And plenty of places picked out to choose from while we’re there. Since weekend nights can be tough to get a table, we made an OpenTable reservation at Hawker Fare already so we definitely have a place to eat Saturday night. Some other places on our mind are: Media Noche, August1Five, China Live, Flores, Alba Ray’s, and Babu Ji.
2. Culture
It can be hard sometimes to fork over the money for cultural stuff in a new city, but it can be such a great way of getting to know the city and make your weekend stand out. This time, we’re going to see Rigoletto put on my San Francisco Opera. We’re totally in the nosebleed section but that’s ok.
3. Exercise
It’s not fun coming back from a trip and feeling sluggish and out of shape. That’s why we make it a point of finding some physical activity to do wherever we’re going, preferably something we don’t do on the reg. This time, we’re going bouldering at Dogpatch Boulders! The friend we’re staying with loves to climb so we’ll get to catch up with her and get out hands and feet moving!
4. Outfits
Duh! It’s fun to explore a city and it’s fun to wear an outfit you love, so why not do both? Maybe you’re bringing your latest thrifty find, or you decided to splurge on something too chic for your hometown, either way we’re definitely going to be sporting some new lewks in SF. We hear pastels are big…
5. Drinks
And we mean all the drinks! SF is the land of coffee shops so we’ve already scoped out a few we desperately want to try, like Tartine Manufactory. And we love a good rooftop cocktail so watch out El Techo, The Yoberts are coming for you.
And of course, if you didn’t splurge on housing and you’ve got friends putting you up, remember to bring a little somethin’ somethin’ to thank them. We’ll be getting in around 9pm on Friday and our friend will have had a long day of work, so we’ll be bringing a big bottle of red (or two).
