Basic 101: Hiking Runyon
What the Hell Life! Or, really what the hell Los Angeles!? We just got here and you're already closing our favorite Hiking spot, Runyon Canyon?! We're on to you LA. We're on to you.
Nevertheless.
We're making the most of our short time. Don't worry though, they'll reopen it... at some point. We thought we'd take a moment to share some insider tips if you've never been (or, if you've been and think it's a hassle to do) for when they do.
Firstly, Parking. Don't be lazy about this. Google maps will take you right to the trail head on Fuller and you'll be miserable. Plus, you'll be stuck in nonsensical traffic trying to figure out how this happened to you. We warned you. Instead, park around Franklin and Vista. Parking North of Franklin won't happen since it's residents only, but below is all good (lest you plan to stay longer than two hours)
The trick to this is that you'll be entering the trail from N Vista St. It's... kind of steep, but it's not horrible. From there you can either turn left or right. We prefer right since it's more of a hike up and walk down, opposed to the alternative.
So. To do this trail, You'll walk up N Vista St. Turn Right at the end. Turn right at the drinking fountain and then Turn Left onto the main trail. From there it's fairly straightforward and if you keep on marchin' you'll end up back at the Drinking Fountain you started at. Dogs are very welcome here and it's an off-leash park. We've had 0 issues with wildlife or altercations with other dogs. Everyone's out having a good time.
Technically Speaking, Here's what we're dealing with:
Easy Peasy! It's quite a simple hike. For the map's sake, we cut out the return to the car,... So don't forget you drove! We'll be sad when this closes for repairs, but, I'm sure we'll just figure out new hikes to do around the area in the meantime.
